This past Saturday as Hurricane Irene crept closer and closer towards Long Island I had the honor of shooting Diana and Flo's wedding.
They moved the ceremony earlier in the day and the originally planned outside reception indoors. I had never met Diana or Flo so I wasn't sure what to expect. When I arrived I was greeted by the most chilled out "who cares about the hurricane" adorably in-love couple ever.
Diana's Mom and cousins did a breathtaking job of transforming the house into wedding-central. I was blown away when I walked in the door!
Enter Diana. As her girls are worriedly glancing at clocks in a tornado of hair curlers and mascara, she is calmly sewing some last-minute alterations on her own dress...awesomely oblivious to the frenzy around her.
I loved Diana's laid back style and attitude. From the dress - to the shoes - to the relaxed atmosphere of the day...it was all very "her."
While Diana and the girls prepared upstairs, equally low-key Flo chilled in the backyard.
When the time finally came, everyone gathered around the altar in the yard.
After they said "I do" it was family photo time.
Annndddd then it was time to party!
The toasts given by Diana's mother and Flo's father didn't leave a dry eye in the house (mine included).
Diana and Flo - it was such a pleasure to be a part of your day. Congrats and here's to lifelong chilled-out happiness!
I spent the last 24-48 hours glued to either The Weather Channel on TV or 1010 Wins in the car. I ran around filling up my gas tank, buying bottled water and supplies (liquor)...all in preparation for Hurricane Irene.
So we "hunkered down," "battened down the hatches" and every other saying we've heard 4,000 times from the correspondents standing in torrential downpours on docks and beaches along the coastline.
This morning Joe and I woke up with no trees through the house and our electricity intact. We continued laying low for most of the morning but let's face it...after a while, you gotta get out of the house.
We took Gillies for a stroll down our usual stomping grounds and got a first hand glimpse of the power of mother nature. People have been mocking the lack of ferocity this storm seemed to produce. All I gotta say is, I'm glad it wasn't worse. Because "not that bad" looks pretty scary to me. Hope everyone had a fun and safe Hurricane weekend!
I’m back!
Yesterday while at work my very observant brother Jimmy emailed me and simply said “you haven’t blogged in 5 days.”
Usually when I haven’t blogged in a few days it’s because I’m busy working full time, picking up shooting gigs on the weekends AND trying to maintain some semblance of a LIFE. So, while I thank all you faithful followers from the bottom of my heart for reading along, if you haven’t seen me in a while it’s because I’m out living it!
That being said, I myself get frustrated when the blogs I follow disappear for a week or more. Why not compromise?? Here is a little taste of my life as it happens away from the computer screen…
{iPhone plug enters stage left} Ever since I started taking pictures, I find myself more and more wishing I could lug my DSLR everywhere I go. I can’t seem to turn off the urge in my head to snap a few shots when I see a beautiful sunset on my way home from work or a quirky-colored barn while driving out east. The good news is that the camera on my iPhone has more megapixels than the point-and-shoot I got for Christmas 3 years ago (won’t rant about how amazing modern technology is…but DAYUM!?) and is always there for me when I need it.
Here are some shots taken with the now ridiculously popular Instagram – a nifty App that lets you apply funky filters to your iPhone pics (am I ready for my QVC debut yet?)
Minus the bells and whistles of Instagram, my phone still takes relatively crisp shots of things I want to document. {Cold beer on a hot day – Bocce Ball Champions – Newseum in D.C. – NYC Bachelorette Trolley}
And now a first on my blog. I have actually made it into some pictures! {On stage before Penn and Teller - receiving Sunday Sads consolation from Gillies - enjoying the first 60 degree day in April - meeting my niece a few weeks ago}
My trusty iPhone has been with me 6 months and we've gone to Vegas, San Diego, concerts, parties AND it's served as my alarm clock every day…
It lets me document my dog acting very mature when we went to watch Kaitlin coach the FP Girls Lax game…
AND serves as a way to capture the evidence when Joe disagrees with the fact that he looks like an Asian monk while eating corn on the cob.
In unrelated news, I have a BIG weekend coming up so check back for updates {hint – there will be MULTIPLE items crossed off my
30 in 365 to-do list} Can you handle the suspense?
Remember being 6 years old and the COOLEST thing ever was when you got mail?? Now that I'm an adult and am bombarded daily with credit cards offers, bills to be paid and endless junk - opening my mail ranks right up there with root canals, oil changes and folding laundry.
Today, I got to feel like that 6 year old once again because I received my first batch of prints in the mail!
After much research, I ordered them from
MPIX . I am muy muy pleased with the way they came out and definitely look forward to sending all my clients their way.
While Daddy got the bike seat ready and Mommy held Baby Claire, Casey hung with Aunt Catherine and hammed it up for the camera. Number one thing you need to know about this kiddo: as long as he has his "cup of milky" (such a Dunbar) and some good old-fashioned sesame street, things will be a-okay.
Helmets on!
He ran back for one more shot before they rode off...
Later, while Baby Claire got her picture taken, Casey swooped in with a kiss {lick} for his little sister...
Claire was soooo over it.
These last few days I have met and gotten to know my brand new niece Claire and I already love this chick-a-dee more than words.
I came down to D.C. with not only my camera but some silly little girly hats for C-dubs to wear while I took 4,000 pictures of her. She totally rocked it (naturally).
It is late and Casey G has worn me out so I picked a few of my favorites and threw them into a
slideshow. Apologies in advance for the incredibly cliche song choice. Seeing my sister's expanding family just warms my heart to mush SO SHOOT ME!

here or on the unspeakably cute picture below to view.
Tomorrow I will post Part II of my visit to D.C. featuring none other than Casey G himself.
Until then, here's lookin at you kid...
I made my way to Brooklyn (WHERE BROOKLYN AT!?...sorry) today to take some official engagement shots for my big brother Danny and his fabuloso fiance Kathy. We started in front of and around their apartment...
Hahaha I love these next two...
Then we headed to the Verazanno Bridge in a race against the rain. Bummed about the lack of sunshine but the clouds were a really nice light diffuser.
Thanks for being such good sports (not, dan was whining) and sitting in the dirty grass...
Dear Kathy,
You are gorgeous.
That is all.
Love,
Me
These last shots were taken as the raindrops started falling and are my absolute favorite of the day...
That's all she wrote! Had a blast with you guys today. Can't wait to get those "Save The Dates" in the mail!!
For those of you who know me well, you know that 90% of the time I have at least one to-do item scribbled on my hand. Today's reminder?....
It's been about 6 months since I started this little blogging adventure and, above all, the one thing I've gained is a newfound respect for people who blog. It's not easy coming up with content every few days. So here I sat on the couch watching "Easy A" for the 3,000th time (seriously...if you haven't seen that yet, watch...now!) staring at the flashing cursor of death.
